SharePoint Missing Component: Viewers and Scanned Documents

SharePoint Image Viewers

SharePoint Document Viewers

So, coming from the document management and ECM industry, one major feature I find SharePoint lacking when it comes to working with scanned documents is an inline viewer.  Even the most rudimentary document management systems allow you to view the document and metadata side by side.  There are some great products for viewing documents in SharePoint, and many are just web parts that allow you to accomplish this necessary function.  Below is a list of viewers:

Informative Graphics Brava! SharePoint Viewer  This is a fantastic viewer that can show beyond just image files, and even has a CAD viewer built in.  As a web part, it allows full image view or thumbnails.

Vizit SharePoint Viewer    For a long time, this company made just a viewer, but it seems lately they are rebranding the product to do things like social sharing and enhanced search.

Snowbound SharePoint Viewer  Snowbound seems to have some neat feature like redaction and annotation, and also provides fast viewing of image documents.

Any I missed?  Good viewers out there or any additional information you want to add?  Please comment.

  1. Very informative article. More and more companies are opting for 3rd party add-ons to enhance functionality and reap the most business benefit. Mobile extensions, social feeds, automated document creation/rendition, and document sharing/white-boarding are set to be high growth. Users looking to get more out of their SharePoint implementation and maximize their investment should consider a pre-configured, high-end document viewer designed to work with SharePoint
